  • Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to have first phone call with Trump today

US President Donald Trump today congratulated Ireland's new Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, who earlier this month became the country's youngest ever and first openly gay leader.

National Security Adviser HR McMaster and Deputy National Security Adviser, Dina Powell, were in the Oval Office for the phone call.

The call comes as the POTUS has been given the green light to introduce his travel ban.

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar held a phone call with US President Donald Trump in which he discussed migration and Britain's exit from the European Union, the Irish government said in a statement yesterday.

The ban has been reinstated until autumn.

The President asked for an update on the Northern Ireland peace process and the situation regarding border controls between the North and the Republic.
