An Indiana official says the state won't be able to provide much of the information requested by President Donald Trump's commission investigating alleged voter fraud during the 2016 election.

Critics of the commission have said they're alarmed by numerous statements made by Trump and Kobach claiming the country's electoral system is plagued with massive voter fraud, including charges that millions voted illegally in the last election.

Denise Merrill, Connecticut's secretary of state, said she would provide "publicly available information" to the commission, but sharply criticized Kobach, who she said "has a lengthy record of illegally disenfranchising eligible voters in Kansas".

"I don't understand the political posturing", he said in an interview.

"It is incredibly stupid and a colossal mistake to create a public national database with sensitive information about voters; it threatens to damage election security and expose millions of Americans to identity theft and untold acts of fraud", Hall said in an email.

North Dakota is the only state without voter registration, so Silrum said they wouldn't provide that data.

"We're not going to give them anything that a journalist, a voter, a party or a candidate can't get", Williams said.

Arkansas is among the states that have not yet made a decision about providing the information.

White House paints Handel win as Trump triumph
In the age of Trump, big ideas are over-rated, but it seems clear that it takes more to win than simply being anti-Trump. Moreover, the race garnered the attention of the entire nation, including the likes of President Donald Trump .

In the 2008 elections, rumors suggested democrats and Hispanic voters in Nevada were getting prank calls telling them they could cast their votes a day later to avoid long lines or vote by phone calls or texts. Evidence for that claim is exceedingly thin.

Though the letter lays out in detail the information it's seeking, including racial and partisan affiliation data that states collect as well as voter participation records back to 2006, it says twice it's seeking only publicly available data.

The letter @KrisKobach1787 is sending to states confirms: Pence and Kobach are laying the groundwork for voter suppression, plain & simple. Lotter described the intent of the request as "fact-finding" and said there were no objections to it by anyone on the 10-member commission, which includes four Democrats. Civil rights groups and Democratic Party lawmakers have called the commission a tactic to suppress votes against Republicans.

In reality, there are states where the legislation does not allow convicted felons to vote for the rest of their lives.

In California, voter registration rolls are not available to the general public, but state law allows certain voter information to be released to "a member of the California Legislature or U.S. Congress, to any candidate, to any committee for or against a proposed ballot measure and to any person for election, scholarly, journalistic or political objective or for governmental purposes".

President Donald Trump's Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity is set to meet for the first time in July.

"It's a huge privacy concern", said Dale Ho, Director of the ACLU's Voting Rights Project. Other than that, some states have stricter absentee, overseas, early voting, and same-day voter registration laws than other states, which are often misused for voter suppression tactics.

The group was formed in response to Trump's claims that almost three million unlawful votes were cast in the 2016 presidential election, causing him to lose the popular vote.
