Grant Armstrong, representing Charlie's parents, said there was encouraging evidence from researchers at the Vatican's children's hospital about an experimental treatment. So the awful case of Charlie Gard serves both to raise hard and important questions about the proper contours of parental rights - and to sound unwarranted alarms about the horrors of socialized medicine and the insidious arrival of death panels.

Trump also waded into the debate on Monday, tweeting that the United States "would be delighted" to help.

Gard's parents, who submitted a petition of over 3,50,000 signatures demanding that they be allowed to take him to the US for treatment, attended the hearing at the High Court in London.

They initially asked for £1.2 million but the fund has now topped £1.3 million.

"There was a divide in opinion last week when Pope Francis and USA president Donald Trump publicly supported the fight to save terminally ill Charlie Gard", the dad of four wrote in his new! magazine column.

"Charlie's parents look forward to new evidence being heard before the High Court this Thursday the 13th of July that will result in Charlie's parents taking him to either the United States of America or to Italy for groundbreaking treatment".

"The moment a human life can begin to be measured on a sliding scale - when lawmakers and doctors decide what "life is unworthy of life" - this is the moment our humanity itself begins to unravel", he added.

After an emotionally charged hearing in London's High Court, during which Charlie's mother wept in frustration and his father yelled at a lawyer, Judge Nicholas Francis gave them 48 hours to present new information in the case.

Manchester attack: Man arrested over terrorism offences
Officer Russ Jackson said at a briefing Thursday: "We do believe that there are other people potentially involved in this". Greater Manchester Police also said that they approached Salman's brother Hashem to get more information about the attack.

Charlie's parents interrupted the hearing at one point.

"Doctors and the judiciary have said that, not only is there no hope, but rather than release Charlie to the care of his parents, they have also omnisciently made a decision to literally hold him hostage - insisting not only that Charlie must die but that he also must be in their "care" when he does", Franks wrote.

The parents have found a doctor in the United States that will perform the experimental treatment.

They are proposing giving Charlie a three-month trial to see if he responds. "I will be the first to welcome that outcome".

The tragic case has left thousands of well-wishers world wide debating what should be done for Charlie.

A spokesman for the Met Police said they were called just after 3pm on Monday to reports of a collision outside the Royal Courts of Justice.

Who will care for Charlie if he does have treatment?

The court's decision to terminate Charlie's life support has met with increasing opposition.
