Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has joked his club will make a €300m offer to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita.

They returned with an offer that, with add-ons, was worth more than £66m - a fee that would have been nearly double what Liverpool spent to bring Mohamed Salah from Roma last month.

Keita has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool over the recent weeks, with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be a fan of the Guinea global.

Liverpool have accepted RB Leipzig's unwillingness to sell Naby Keita and will wait until next summer to return for him, sources have told ESPN FC. The German team will play their first ever Champions League campaign in 2017-18, and want to keep Keita for the competition.

"Our next offer for Keita is €300m!" he jested whilst enjoying a conversation with Sky Deutschland.

He said: "That chance [of his leaving] is "null".

Leipzig see the 22-year-old as a huge player, and now sources close to Liverpool say they will shelve their interest until next summer when it is understood a release clause of just under £50million will kick in.

A revelation in the Bundesliga last season, the all-action midfielder was at the heartbeat behind of Leipzig's improbable championship push, when he registered eight goals and created a further eight for his teammates.

"At the beginning of the transfer period we said we would start with the same team, and of the players we had a year ago no-one will go".

"It's 100 percent that Naby will play this year at Leipzig".

"That would be our answer now, also because for us, we conceded how important Naby Keita is for our game". "He knows this season will be fantastic for us", he said.

"When you play such a famous season as a year ago it is normal players get interest, that other clubs are watching us is normal", he said.
