  • US 'Successfully' Conducts THAAD Defense System Test

U.S. Department of Defense (KODIAK, Alaska) - The U.S. conducted a successful test of a missile-defense system over the Pacific Ocean, military officials announced Sunday morning.

On July 11, the USA test-fired its THAAD anti-ballistic missile system from Kodiak Island, successfully intercepting a target missile launched from an Air Force Cargo plane north of Hawaii, according to Fox News.

Washington D.C. [USA], July 30: The U.S. military conducted a successful test of its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system over the Pacific Oceanon Sunday.

China has been notified of the move to speed up the deployment, the South's presidential Blue House said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has said that deployment of THAAD elements in South Korea and Alaska "destroys the strategic balance in the world".

Lockheed Martin Corp, contractor for the THAAD system, said it can intercept incoming missiles both inside and outside the Earth's atmosphere.

However, South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-Moo said Saturday that Seoul would now begin consultations on the "tentative deployment" parts of the THAAD battery in response to the latest North Korean test. Following the launch, the US and South Korean militaries responded by firing surface-to-surface missiles amid increasing tensions on the peninsula.

It comes after North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of 6,500 miles on Friday night - far enough to reach major USA cities.

It's also been making threatening statements toward the U.S. On Friday, the country launched its second intercontinental ballistic missile test in less than a month and claimed it could strike anywhere in the the U.S.

"We have a responsibility to our allies and our nation to showcase our unwavering commitment while planning for the worst-case scenario". It can shoot down short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles.

U.S. President Donald Trump criticized China and his predecessors Saturday night on Twitter.

"I am very disappointed in China".

He says China "could easily solve the problem!"
