Iran says U.S. breaching nuclear deal as Rouhani starts new term

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has officially endorsed the reelection of Hassan Rohani as Iran's president. He would be sworn-in for his second term. Among those in attendance at the ceremony was former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who fell out of favour with the establishment and was notably barred from standing as a candidate. The Trump administration and Congress have been busy slapping a variety of sanctions, some unprecedented, on Iran for its conglomerate of belligerence.

The United States is undermining the Iran nuclear deal by imposing sanctions on the country, a ranking Iranian official said Thursday on state TV.

President Donald Trump signed into law a new sanctions package that targets Iran, along with Russian Federation and North Korea, despite complaints that it includes "a number of clearly unconstitutional provisions".

The U.S. legislation imposes mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them. Javdanfar said the new USA sanctions on Iran signed by Trump into law on Wednesday, along with measures against Russian Federation and North Korea would likely deter foreign investors and so undermine Rouhani's efforts to boost the economy. French energy giant Total defied USA pressure in July by signing a multi-billion-dollar gas deal with Iran.

"So far we consider that all parties have been implementing their commitments under the deal", Catherine Ray, a spokeswoman for European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, told a press briefing in Brussels.

The Iranian president championed a nuclear deal with the United States and five other major powers in 2015 that led to the lifting of most sanctions against Iran past year, in return for curbs on its nuclear program.

Twitter Earnings Beat Views, But Stagnant Users Hit Stock
Daily active users , toward which management has recently been trying to shift investor attention, were up 12% year over year. In part from these numbers, Twitter shares opened trading Thursday down around 13 percent at $17.39 per share.

However, Iran said earlier this week that it would lodge a complaint with the commission that oversees its implementation.

"I confirm the vote and appoint you as president of the republic", Khamenei said on August 3 at a ceremony in Tehran that was attended by Iranian officials and foreign dignitaries. Iranians re-elected Rouhani as the President in the country's May, 2017 elections.

Rouhani will take the oath of office in Iran's Parliament (Majlis) on Saturday.

The incumbent moderate president won a landslide victory on May 19 by garnering 57 percent of the ballots.

His conservative rival Ebrahim Raisi came second with 38.5 per cent.
