The U.S. has 34 cities and 39 stadiums on the list of potential candidates, the rest are split between Mexico and Canada.

On the list were nine Canadian facilities, including Regina's Mosaic Stadium. Final bids are due in January 2018.

The first three World Cups were held in 1930, 1934 and 1938.

Forty-four cities across three nations are being solicited for interest in hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Jacksonville is one of them. Canada, which would also host 10 games, is offering at least six cities.

In Las Vegas, the planned Raiders Stadium is under consideration as a host site. U.S. Bank Stadium now has 63,000 seats.

While McMahon Stadium in Calgary has been named as another possible venue, major retrofits and a temporary seating expansion will likely be required to boost the aging venue's condition to a world-class level. Each venue included in the request has to have at least 40,000 seats for the group-stage matches, and U.S. Bank Stadium has 63,000. Slated to host 60 tournament games, the United States would feature the most venues. Other venues include the new Los Angeles Stadium, and the 105,000-capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Only a small fraction of these identified cities will become Official Host Cities of the tournament, if it is awarded to the United Bid.

The United Bid Committee will narrow the list before submitting its formal bid to Federation Internationale de Football Association in March.

Cities who declare their interest in hosting games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be reviewed and then whittled down to a shortlist of 20 to 25 in September. Officials have said North America's transportation and lodging infrastructure is uniquely prepared to host an expanded tournament when compared with other parts of the world.
