Mr. Trump said recently that he's considering a pardon of Mr. Arpaio, after the former sheriff of Arizona's Maricopa County was convicted of contempt of court for ignoring a judge's order that he stop using traffic enforcement to try to sweep up illegal immigrants.

"For the sake of our nation - as our president - please fix this", Graham continues.

When Trump addressed the country on Sunday - his second statement on Charlottesville - condemning the KKK, neo-Nazis and white supremacists by name and stating that "racism is evil", Graham had initially responded with a simple tweet: "Well done Mr. President".
