UEFA announced on Friday that it would investigate PSG, "particularly in light of its recent transfer activity", although the club themselves have expressed surprise at the move.

"In the coming months, the Investigatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body will regularly meet in order to carefully evaluate all documentation pertaining to this case", the statement added.

All I've ever done is play football.

UEFA will not give any further comments on this matter as the investigation is now ongoing.

Friday's announcement from European football's governing body said it would look at whether PSG had violated the regulations, which are created to prevent football clubs spending more than they earn.

"For example, Deputy Managing Director Jean-Claude Blanc presented UEFA experts at UEFA's headquarters for more than three hours on 23 August, including Andrea Traverso, responsible for UEFA's financial fair play. that the operations carried out with FC Barcelona and the current one with AS Monaco were in compliance with the rules of the Financial Fair Play for the financial year 2017/2018".

Mbappe might even struggle to get time. He had six goals in six Champions League knockout games last season. "I'm very happy there".

"It was essential for French football that we keep and help develop such a great talent in our championship", said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

When that didn't work out because of a problem with FFP, the Ligue 1 side decided that signing him on loan with a view to signing him next summer would be a way around it.

PSG, who broke the transfer record to sign Neymar from Barcelona for a staggering fee of €222 million, had reportedly been told by UEFA that there was no way a similar amount could be spent on an another player in the same transfer window.

According to reports, Mbappe, 18, will join PSG on a permanent basis for £166million next summer. They were able to sell off four players - Serge Aurier, Blaise Matuidi, Jean-Kevin Augustin and Youssouf Sabaly - for a reported €62m, but that still leaves PSG's net spending this summer at around €356m.

"The loan agreement also includes a call option for Paris Saint-Germain which, when exercised, will bind the player to Paris Saint-Germain until June 30, 2022", a statement on their official website read. Mbappe was expected to join as recently as last week, but the move only just made it through before the transfer window shuts at midnight Thursday.

PSG, owned by the Qatar sovereign wealth fund QSI, has form for breaching FFP rules, having accepted a €60m reduction of prize money and a reduction in squad size in May 2014, after a previous Uefa investigation.
