Leading the deluge of condemnation by world leaders was president Donald Trump of U.S. who branded the North "a rogue nation" whose "words and actions continue to be very hostile and dangerous" to the United States.

The president apparently sought to put the onus for the failure to dissuade the North on South Korea and China.

"It isn't ludicrous to think that the North Koreans, even though their economy is one-third the size of Ethiopia, can do this", said Harry Kazianis who heads up defense studies at the Center for National Interest. "All members unanimously agreed on the threat North Korea poses", Mattis continued.

"We always have military options, but they're very ugly", said Mark Hertling, a retired US Army general and CNN military analyst.

Mattis added: "We are not looking to the total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea, but as I said, we have many options to do so".

THERESA MAY has refused to back Donald Trump's Armageddon threat over North Korea, saying it's the UK's "overwhelming" preference for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution.

Theresa May, British prime minister, said: "I discussed the serious and grave threat these unsafe and illegal actions present with President Abe in Japan this week and reiterate the call we jointly made for tougher action, including increasing the pace of implementation of existing sanctions and looking urgently in the UN Security Council at new measures".

"I did speak with the president", Mnuchin also said Sunday.

On Setp. 4, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley asserted that the U.S. was prepared to take military action against North Korea if global sanctions did not deter the Kim regime. In 2003, Kim Jong Il withdrew North Korea from the treaty and plutonium production - previously suspended in exchange for economic aid - was resumed.

This comes after North Korea was struck by as many as two strong tremors on Sunday following a nuclear test.

A foreign ministry spokesman said later that it had launched "stern representations with the person in charge of the North Korean embassy in China".

The National Security team met this afternoon, and the U.N. Security Council will meet tomorrow morning as leaders around the world consider how to respond to North Korea's latest provocation.

Trump's threat to halt all economic ties with any country that does business with North Korea amounts to his biggest trade salvo to date and would be almost impossible to pull off without having enormous implications for the USA economy.

President Moon Jae In said his country would not allow its neighbor to continue to advance its nuclear and missile technologies.

The test drew condemnation from both South Korea and China. North Korea tested its intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time in July, and its second test later the same month showed the rocket could theoretically reach Denver or Chicago.

The test, which comes a week after Pyongyang fired a missile over the Japanese island of Hokkaido, caused a 6.3 magnitude natural disaster on Sunday. CNN reports that the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement Sunday, saying "We strongly urge (the) North Korea side to face up to the firm will of the worldwide community on the denuclearization of the peninsula, abide by relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, stop taking wrong actions that exacerbate the situation and are not in its own interest..."

Kim Jong-Un was reportedly all hands on deck, watching the hydrogen bomb get loaded on top of the missile.
