Washington Post White House correspondent David Nakamura began his question by reading Hill's tweet, then asking press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders whether the president was aware of it.

Charlottesville Vice Mayor Wes Bellamy - a man who was launched into the public eye when hundreds of white supremacists marched through his town - is standing by SportsCenter anchor Jemele Hill after she called President Donald Trump a "white supremacist".

That was when she called Trump a white supremacist.

Because 53% of white women made a decision to turn their collective backs on America, Donald Trump is in office and since then I can't figure out which side is up anymore. Period. He is unqualified and unfit to be president. He is not a leader.

Her critiques of Trump continued, calling his ascendancy to the White House the result of white supremacy.

After an inevitable social media uproar, ESPN issued a statement saying Hill's comments "do not represent" the sports network and that the station "addressed" the tweets with Hill.

Jemele Hill doesn't want to stick to sports, and it appears that ESPN isn't too fond of that. In a number of tweets on September 11, Hill slammed Trump as "unfit, bigoted [and] incompetent".

ESPN host Jemele Hill stirred up controversy this week after she dubbed Donald Trump a white supremacist for his many acts of hate and offensive rhetoric.

Colin Kaepernick was the first to stand alongside Hill publically. Hill referred wryly to Kaepernick when she tweeted that Baltimore "signed a dude who quit football to be a realtor and played in 2 games in college over a Super Bowl QB".

In neither apologizing nor announcing a suspension - while simultaneously distancing itself - ESPN has managed to enrage just about everyone who has seen the "SportsCenter" anchor's Tuesday night rant about President Trump.

An ESPN spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Sanders calling for Hill to be fired.

ESPN may not approve of Hill's comments, but a significant portion of Americans are concerned about the increased prominence of white supremacy and the president's role in promoting it.

"If Obama bragged about grabbing women by their vaginas, you wouldn't have to say much, Britt, because he wouldn't have been elected", Robert Klemko of Sports Illustrated tweeted in response.
