  • How fast will India's first bullet train

The Japanese team estimated that the first train would roll out by 2023, but Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said PM Modi wants the train to start on 15 August 2022 - when India completes 75 years of Independence.

The 500-kilometer project will be financed by Japan which will provide 85 percent of the total project cost of $19 billion in soft loans, expected to be completed by 2022. The sale of US-2 amphibious aircraft is also likely to come up.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's India visit was a significant one and the evident bonhomie between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke volumes of significantly better Indo-Japan relations.

"A strong China has the confidence that no Asian country can substantially challenge China's national security nor can they by grouping together".

"The Indo-Japan relationship is not just about bilateral trade".

It said China would never follow India and Japan "who have somewhat lost themselves".

That Japan has agreed to provide its state-of-the-art US -2 amphibian aircraft to India shows the high degree of trust between the two countries.

Florida nuclear plants to shut ahead of Hurricane Irma
Duke has spent more than $2.4 billion on similar upgrades since 2004, including using "self-healing" systems to reroute power. The Category 4 hurricane swept over the Florida Keys Sunday morning on its path to mainland Florida.

"The two Prime Ministers expressed their strong commitment to work together to enhance connectivity in India and with other countries in the Indo-Pacific region including Africa", it said. During his last visit in December 2015, Abe was in Varanasi, PM Modi's Lok Sabha constituency.

However, the joint statement, unlike 2016, does not mention the South China Sea. Spokesperson of the Chinese foreign ministry Hua Chunying reacting to the joint statement said "that regional countries should stand for dialogue without confrontation and work for a partnership instead of an alliance".

"India, Japan and the United States conducted a Malabar trilateral naval exercise". In a not so subtle dig at China, Modi and Abe underlined the importance of all countries in ensuring the development and use of connectivity infrastructure "in an open, transparent and non-exclusive manner based on global standards and responsible debt financing practices, while ensuring respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, rule of law, and the environment".

Earlier, an editorial in the Global Times had said how geo economics would trump geo politics and "China's vast trade with Japan and India greatly dwarfs bilateral trade between India and Japan".

Analysts say building the train line will give a boost to infrastructure development in India's fast-growing western industrial region, contribute to economic growth and de-congest crowded cities.

India is also looking up to Japan for the development of Northeast, a key region for the success of Act East policy.

"In this context, they noted with satisfaction the setting up of the India Japan Act East Forum", it stated.
