  • Google Hit With Class Action Lawsuit Over Gender Discrimination

According to reliable sources, the lawsuit was filed in California state court in San Francisco.

While Google has been an industry-leading tech innovator, its treatment of female employees has not entered the 21st century, said Kelly Dermody of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, who was among the lawyers who filed the case. The plaintiffs, Kelly Ellis, Holly Pease, and Kelli Wisuri suggest that Google systematically keeps women in lower compensation levels than men with equal or lesser skills and education even though they do similar work.

However, the plaintiffs said that Google violated the California laws requiring equal pay for similar work and prohibiting unfair and unlawful business practices.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Google spokeswoman Gina Scigliano said the company will review the suit but disagrees "with the central allegations". Pease claims that, despite being a corporate network manager responsible for engineering teams, she was never placed on a "technical" ladder that would have improved salary, bonuses, pay rises and company equity.

Charges of sexual orientation segregation have whirled at Alphabet Inc. - claimed Google since the U.S. Work Department sued in January to ban Google from working with the government until the point when it discharged a great many archives identified with a review over its compensation rehearses. James Finberg, is hoping the get the suit certified as a class action lawsuit so that potentially tens of thousands of female Google employees in California would benefit.

Google is also under investigation by the US Department of Labour over its pay practices. Several male employees who were less qualified than her or at the same level were promoted before her.

Google said in an email that "job levels and promotions are determined through rigorous hiring and promotion committees" and that it has checks in place to guard against gender bias.

Meanwhile, in a fresh onslaught on Google, James Damore - the engineer who was sacked by the company over a memo criticising its's diversity efforts - said that the tech giant was discriminating in hiring practices. It appears that Google may have treated their employees differently when it came to paying them. Prior to that, she had worked as an engineer after graduating from the University of Virginia in 2006, the suit says.

The lawsuit, filed in a San Francisco court, says that Google discriminates against female staff with lower pay, more limited promotion, and fewer advancement opportunities compared to men with comparable qualifications.
