A new report has surfaced indicating Steven Paddock, 64, who killed 59 (including himself) and injured almost 500 when he opened fire on a Las Vegas country music festival Sunday evening, may have also targeted Chicago's annual music festival, Lollapalooza.

Officals briefed on the investigation still don't know the motive behind the Las Vegas shooting and are trying to figure out what the Boston and Chicago research was all about.

Sunday's mass shooting was the deadliest in United States history, killing 59 people and injuring nearly 500 more.

The Chicago Police Department said in a statement issued Thursday that it was aware of the media report about the Blackstone Hotel booking during Lollapalooza and is tightening security plans for upcoming major events happening in Chicago including the Chicago Marathon this Sunday. The hotel management company and Lollapalooza did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Among the revellers at the August festival were former President Barack Obama's daughters, Malia and Sasha.

Establishment history of luxury, the Blackstone has housed many heads of State, including Jimmy Carter, as well as great artists such as Nat King Cole and Rudolph Valentino.

This new disclosure suggests that Paddock might have been planning an attack months before the massacre in Las Vegas.

But what led the 64-year-old to unleash the carnage remains largely a mystery.

But there are widespread reports she joined her billionaire brother Thaksin, a former prime minister ousted in a 2006 coup, in Dubai.

Authorities previously disclosed Paddock had 1,600 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle, along with fertilizer that can be used to make explosives and 50 pounds of Tannerite, a substance used in explosive rifle targets.

The official said no evidence has been found that Paddock ever came to Chicago that weekend.

"Yes", Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said on Wednesday when asked if the shooter had planned to escape after the killing.

Paddock, who also injured almost 500 people, then took his own life.

Like other recent mass shootings, the incident stirred the debate in Washington over regulating firearm ownership, which is protected by the Second Amendment of the US Constitution. Danley added she was devastated by the carnage and would cooperate with authorities as they struggle to get inside Paddock's mind.

CBS News justice and homeland security correspondent Jeff Pegues reports that investigators are focusing on why, starting in October 2016, Paddock accumulated 33 weapons from gun stores in Nevada, California, Texas and Utah, and why his vehicle contained ammunition, fertilizer and tannerite, which is a powerful explosive.

Danley later also told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Paddock had developed symptoms of mental health issues and "would lie in bed, just moaning and screaming, "Oh my God, '" an ex-FBI official in the know told the Daily Mail". She was in the Philippines visiting her family on the day of the attack. Her lawyer, Matt Lombard, said his client was co-operating fully with authorities.
