  • Journalist Mark Halperin is accused of sexually harassing five women: report

Multiple women have come forward to accuse veteran political journalist Mark Halperin of sexual harassment, according to a report published by CNN on Wednesday evening.

CNN reported Wednesday night that five women said Halperin had a history of propositioning junior staffers at ABC News and making other unwanted sexual advances.

Halperin, who is now an analyst for NBC News, issued an apology on Wednesday, although he denied grabbing a woman's breasts and pressing his genitals against three women.

In a statement provided to Mediaite, MSNBC called the CNN story and allegations "very troubling", adding that "Mark Halperin is leaving his role as a contributor until the questions around his past conduct are fully understood".

Neither ABC nor NBC commented on the allegations. "Brave of these women to speak up". They said they did not report Halperin. Halperin has denied grabbing a woman's breasts and pressing his genitals against three of the women who spoke out.

One woman said she visited Halperin in his ABC office in the early 2000s when he forced himself on her.

Established journalist Mark Halperin has been accused of sexual harassment while he was at ABC News.

"I went up to have a soda and talk and - he just kissed me and grabbed my boobs", the woman said. "I didn't know what to do".

Some of the women recounted tales where after rebuffing or fleeing their first incident of harassment, Halperin would continue to sexually pursue them. "I now understand from these accounts that my behavior was inappropriate and caused others pain". He is one of the most well-known political analysts in national media, and his co-authored bestseller Game Change was made into an HBO movie starring Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin. "Under the circumstances, I'm going to take a step back from my day-to-day work while I properly deal with this situation". "Given I was so young and new I wasn't sure if that was the sort of thing that was expected of you if you wanted something from a male figure in news".

Halperin has apologized for what he termed inappropriate behavior, and ABC said Thursday that no complaints were filed against him during his tenure, which ended more than a decade ago.
