Doug Stafford said it is unclear when Paul will return to work since he is in considerable pain and has difficulty getting around, including flying.

Rene Boucher, 59, a Bowling Green doctor, was arrested Friday and charged with fourth-degree assault after an incident at Paul's home in the gated Rivergreen community just east of Bowling Green.

Boucher was taken to the Warren County Jail, where records show he was released on Saturday on a $7,500 bond with a court date scheduled for Thursday. Paul told police that his neighbor, Boucher, came onto his property and "tackled him from behind, forcing him to the ground and causing pain". Rand Paul says the attack was not politically motivated but was a regrettable dispute he said most people would regard as trivial.

Stafford said severe pain can last for weeks or even months with such injuries.

Paul reportedly told police that Boucher tackled him from behind. According to the warrant for Boucher's arrest, Paul had injuries to his face and had trouble breathing due to a rib injury.
