  • Facebook suggests users upload nudes to avoid revenge porn

The cryptographic signature, marked with a hash, will allow Facebook to identify inappropriate images without the need to store them on a database.

If you're in Australia, Facebook wants your nude photographs, but it's not what you may be thinking.

It requires users who are anxious about their intimate photos being shared on the platform to upload them to Messenger.

Julie Inman Grant, Australia's e-Safety commissioner, said Facebook would not permanently store the images, only their digital fingerprints, which are capable of blocking further attempts to upload the pictures but can not be decoded to produce the images themselves. "If someone fears they are at risk of revenge porn, they can contact e-Safety", they explained. "Australia is 1 of 4 countries participating in a pilot with Facebook to help prevent sharing of intimate images".

The social media company is right now testing the new strategy in Australia where it is working in collaboration with the office of the e-Safety Commissioner to device methods so that revenge porn can be dealt with. Firstly, the user has to upload an explicit photo of themselves to the messenger (later delete the same from chat).

Revenge porn is increasingly a problem around the world.

Zidane expects Real to hit back against Spurs in Wembley debut
As we all know, when you lose it's frustrating but it's for a reason. "Of course we are fearless in the way we are going to play". Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media before his side take on Real Madrid at Wembley on Wednesday night.

"They're not storing the image, they're storing the link and using artificial intelligence and other photo-matching technologies", Julie Inman Grant, the Australian eSafety Commissioner, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. If they decide the images have been shared violate Facebook's community standards, in many cases, the account which shared the image will be disabled, the company said.

Will Facebook in the US get this technology?

Facebook will then put a digital fingerprint on the image and will block the sensitive image from appearing if someone tries to upload that same image to Facebook or Instagram.

In 2015, it became illegal in Wales and England to share private or sexual images or video without the subject's permission, and as of April 2017, 206 people were prosecuted under these new rules. "Unfortunately, the issue of revenge porn, or unwanted distribution of compromising photos isn't one that can be solved by technology alone".

By the way, "revenge porn" is a horrendous phrase.
