  • Reports Airbus on verge of a signing deal to sell 430 A320's to US based investor Indigo Partners

Private equity firm Indigo Partners, which has set up ultra-low cost airlines around the world, made the massive commitment for Airbus' single-aisle A320neo family airliners at the Dubai Air Show on Wednesday.

Indigo's managing partner, Bill Franke, 80, flew to Dubai for the signing ceremony, although there are still final details of the deal to be worked out.

For Airbus, the $49.5 billion list price value is seen as a record, though it is eclipsed by a $76 billion Emirates deal with Boeing in 2013.

John Leahy, COO, Customer, Airbus Commercial Aircraft, described the deal as 'remarkable, and thanked his sales team.

The end of the year will see flydubai have a fleet of 61 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, in addition to a pipeline of 70 aircraft due for delivery by 2023.

Boeing inks $1.3B Ethiopian Airlines deal for 777 freighters

"An order for 430 aircraft is remarkable, but it's particularly gratifying to all of us at Airbus when it comes from a group of airline professionals who know our products as well as the folks at Indigo Partners do".

According to Gulf Today, Airbus and Boeing booked large deals on the second to last day of the Dubai Airshow.

Boeing is dominating the Dubai show so far, after Dubai's Emirates airline announced a surprise 787 Dreamliner order.

Analysts are of the view that the two plane makers will be engaged in cut throat competition in the single-aisle segment. In under a decade, flydubai has extended its network to 97 destinations in 44 countries, transporting more than 44 million passengers. More than 50 of the first 175 planes will be 737 MAX 10s, the newest and largest variant in the MAX family. "We are honoured that flydubai has selected to be an all-Boeing operator for many years to come. This caps a terrific week for all of us at Boeing".

Signing this agreement, the Chairman and Chief Executive of the world-renowned airline, S. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, did so in the presence of the current Vice President and UAE Prime Minister and also the Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
