Apple will delay the launch of its HomePod "smart speaker" until 2018, pushing back the timeline from a promised December delivery. The company has long-term plans for the HomePod, after all.

The Apple HomePod will lose a significant number of potential sales because of the delay, but being absent for one holiday season might not matter in the long run for Apple.

The HomePod speaker was announced in June, with an initial launch date set for December.

The speaker also features "spatial awareness", which allows it to automatically tune the sound to the space that the speaker is in, along with a six-microphone array. A Google Home Mini costs $49, but the company is also coming out with a higher-end version for $399.

"We can't wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple's breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it's ready for our customers", the company said.

Syria deal in the works ahead of likely Trump-Putin meeting
U.S. spy chiefs reportedly told 21 states that they were targeted by Putin's hackers before the 2016 Presidential Election. Russian Federation has denied any state-sponsored system of doping.

The downside is that during all this time, there are many technological companies that have shown their novelties in the segment of smart loudspeakers. "We'll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018", an Apple spokeswoman said via email. They can play music, spit out trivia, manage shopping lists and put things on your calendar.

Inside it sports an Apple A8 microprocessor, which the company claims is "the biggest brain inside of a speaker". Although developers can make apps for Siri and HomePod, they're now limited to building things like lists, notes, and messaging. Apple's new smart speaker will not arrive in time for the holidays as scheduled.

Christened the Apple HomePod, the squat but stylish device will take on not only early leaders Google and Amazon in the voice-controlled speaker market but Sonos for high-quality multi-room audio.

"When HomePod comes out, you'll probably hear some great content from artists that are familiar and popular, and there's probably going to be some other special aspects as well", he said. Luckily for Apple, its new iPhone X and iPhone 8 seem to be selling well enough.
