  • #MeToo: Time magazine's Person of the Year prize goes to 'Silence Breakers'

"The Silence Breakers" reads Time's Person of the Year cover which doesn't feature one persona but the people who have publicly talked about the sexual harassment they've encountered.

In the wake of sexual misconduct revelations about Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and dozens of other prominent men in USA politics, media and entertainment, millions of people worldwide have shared their stories about being sexually harassed and assaulted.

The cover image for the magazine's new issue features some of the biggest players within the #MeToo campaign including actress Ashley Judd, former Uber engineer Susan Fowler, Visa lobbyist Adama Iwu, Mexican agriculturist Isabel Pascual and finally, Taylor Swift.

The allegations against the disgraced Hollywood producer prompted the #MeToo movement, which encouraged others to share their experiences on social media.

Despite slamming the designation, Trump was named Person of the Year in 2016 shortly after he was elected. And TIME magazine has acknowledged those countless victims this year by conferring the title to the "The Silence Breakers".

"The galvanizing actions of the women on our cover.along with those of hundreds of others, and of many men as well, have unleashed one of the highest-velocity shifts in our culture since the 1960s", the magazine said in its announcement.

From Harvey Weinstein to Kevin Spacey, several high-profile individuals have lost their job after cases of sexual harassment were reported against them.

The announcement comes after President Donald Trump made a mockery of the designation, noting on Twitter that Time had called him and told him he would "probably" be named, but the mag caught him in a lie by clarifying they don't reach out to anyone until December 6.

Also nominated were the Dreamers - a group of undocumented immigrants brought to the USA as children who face fears of deportation under President Trump's administration. CEO Jeff Bezos, Internet-muzzling Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and last year's victor, noted Twitter user Donald Trump, a movement defined by a hashtag has emerged as Time Magazine's 2017 Person of the Year.
