Senior U.N. official Jeffrey Feltman (L) met with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho on Thursday.

The United Nations says its political chief and North Korea's foreign minister agree that the current situation on the Korean peninsula is the most unsafe security issue in the world.

The United States and South Korea conducted large-scale military drills this week, which the North said have made the outbreak of war "an established fact".

North Korea says it has agreed to regular communication with the UN.

State media said Feltman's visit "contributed to deepening the understanding between the DPRK and the U.N. Secretariat".

State media also said Feltman visited a Pyongyang maternity hospital and a "disease prevention" facility, but left out mention of details around his meeting with foreign ministry officials.

The UN official was scheduled to meet other representatives of the North Korean regime to discuss matters of mutual interest and concerns.

GDP growth: Impact of note ban, GST behind us, says Jaitley
Earlier, the Union finance ministry had seen downward risks to its original growth projection of 6.75 per cent to 7.5 per cent. "However, after the final indirect tax collection data is released, it might lead to upward revision in the growth numbers".

The UN continues to operate in North Korea, with programmes providing food, agricultural and health aid but the last visit by a senior official was back in 2011.

Kim Hyun-uk of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy said the dialogue will not make a significantly positive impact on the peninsula, given North Korea's standing position on nuclear weapons.

According to North Korea's state-run media, Feltman discussed United Nations assistance and operations in North Korea in a meeting with the vice foreign minister on Wednesday.

North Korea is also concerned about the effects global sanctions have had on the delivery of humanitarian aid.

North Korea is pursuing nuclear and missile weapons programs in defiance of United Nations sanctions and worldwide condemnation.

Last month's missile test prompted a US warning that North Korea's leadership would be "utterly destroyed" if war were to break out.
