  • Donald Trump Slams Washington Post Judge Gorsuch Story as 'Fake News'

"A story in the @washingtonpost that I was close to "rescinding" the nomination of Justice Gorsuch prior to confirmation is FAKE NEWS. The unnamed sources don't exist!"

Early this year, before his confirmation to the US Supreme Court, Neil Gorsuch was quoted as saying he found President Donald Trump's criticism of the federal judiciary "disheartening" and "demoralizing". Richard Blumenthal of CT that he found the president's heated attacks on judges blocking implementation of his travel ban "disheartening" and "demoralizing".

He reportedly fretted over whether Gorsuch, lauded by the mainstream Republicans that have sometimes clashed with the White House, would be "loyal" and wondered if he were sufficiently grateful.

Trump reportedly considered withdrawing Gorsuch's... "And you were so kind to recognize Mrs. Scalia, remember the justice [Scalia], and mention me. He is very proud of the accomplishment", spokesman Raj Shah said in a statement to The Post. "My teenage daughters were cheering the TV!" But if true, the report further bolsters former FBI Director James Comey's claim that Trump summoned him to the White House and repeatedly said he needed his "loyalty".

Trump nominated Gorsuch in January to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia, who died past year.

Trump also said that a panel of the 9th Circuit federal appeals court that heard arguments while reviewing the judge's order was "disgraceful".

"The process obviously caused frustration, but that frustration was compounded by the fact that Gorsuch had sent him a personal letter that he never received", Short said.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Trump was infuriated by the remarks at the time and suggested rescinding Gorsuch's nomination.

At the time, Gorsuch was having courtesy meetings with senators, including Blumenthal. "I see daily their love of country and our Constitution, and know it is a tribute to you and your leadership for policy is always about personnel". The Senate eventually confirmed Gorsuch in April by a 54-45 vote.
