  • Nintendo Plans to Sell 20 Million More Switches Next Year

According to Wall Street Journal, Nintendo told outside game developers that it was delaying the rollout of 64-gigabyte game cards for the Nintendo Switch until 2019. Physical game cards provide the benefit of additional storage so that developers and users don't rely exclusively on the Switch's internal storage space.

The Nintendo Switch is a bonafide success, but third-party developers have been feeling the sting when porting their games to the platform. And once the Switch's included memory is full, you have to upgrade to expensive external microSD memory.

According to a journalist called Takashi Mochizuki from the Wall Street Journal.

Nintendo Is Putting Off Fixing One Of The Switch's Biggest Problems

Hey, remember those Nintendo Switch cartridges? The problem for game developers working on titles that need that extra storage space is that any scheduled for roll out in 2018 that would have required 64GB physical media won't happen.

The Wall Street Journal's source told them that some software makers, particularly US -based publishers making data-heavy games, were disappointed. There are also users who prefer to buy physical releases because Nintendo's games tend to hold their resell value better than other systems. By using cartridges in the Switch, gamers can benefit from not having to install lots of data and load times are kept to a minimum, but size limitations can remove those advantages and they do make the games cost more.

"If a publisher wants to put a game on a 32GB cart on Switch it costs 60% more for them then it would for a 50GB Blu-Ray on PS4/XB1", tweeted Asian games analyst Daniel Ahmad.
