Since this is the second full moon of the month, we refer to it as a blue moon.

The event will combine 3 phenomena at the same time, a blue moon, a supermoon, and a total lunar eclipse, which will be most visible in the Eastern hemisphere.

The eclipse will be harder to see in the lightening predawn sky, and the moon will set after 7 the Sun rises, according to NASA.

On Wednesday morning, Jan. 31, residents have a special reason to go outside before dawn as January's second full moon goes into eclipse.

"For the [continental] USA, the survey will be best in the West", Gordon Johnston, program official and lunar blogger at NASA home office in Washington, said in the announcement.

The moon orbits around Earth, while Earth orbits around the sun. When this red light strikes the moon's surface, it also appears red.

Starting Anew - According to Refinery 29, those of Wiccan faith consider any blood moon which occurs in October to be "a compelling time to build, to begin, to create" and also a good time to shed old habits. We already had one on the first of this month and our second will be January 31, making it a blue moon. Earth passes in between the moon and the sun and cuts off the sunlight, causing an eclipse.

In India, the partial shadow on the Moon would be seen at 4.21 pm, while the complete lunar eclipse would be visible at 6.21 pm. Cameras in Australia and the western US will follow the lunar eclipse from 6:30 a.m. ET January 31. By about 6:15 a.m., the Earth's reddish shadow will be clearly noticeable on the moon. This is also called a "harvest moon" which isn't a true lunar eclipse but shifts red because of changing seasons. "The next full "supermoon" will appear only 7% bigger and a bit brighter than an average full Moon", said Italian astrophysicist, Gianluca Masi in a statement. As noted by Space, a blue moon is "the appearance of an additional full moon within a given period".

The partial lunar eclipse will begin at 4:21 pm, turning into a total eclipse at 6:21 pm.

A total of 85 total lunar eclipses will take place during the 21st century, and Taiwan will be able to see 63 of them.

The last time a total lunar eclipse was visible in Miami was on December 21, 2010, which also happened to be the winter solstice - a rare event that hadn't happened since 1638.
