'Disturbed' fan 'plots death' of popular YouTube star, breaks into couple's home

When he couldn't find the couple, Giles left, encountering Austin Police Department officers on his way out.

Police found several notes in Giles' phone referring to Ms Turney and her boyfriend Mr Free by name.

Ms Turney, a Texas native, is a former Rooster Teeth host and cosplayer who has gained fame for cosplaying at Comic Con and other conventions.

As he "developed a fondness" for Turney, he also decided, "I want Gavin Free to die alone, with no children", according to the Albuquerque Journal, citing court documents. Part of the investigation includes assistance from homicide detectives, working with the Albuquerque P.D.

The couple were not injured in the incident.

Gavin Free and Meg Turney have thanked fans for their support after reports emerged that they were forced to hide in a closet after a man fired a gun in their home. Surveillance video showed Giles enter the home, and "based on the footage seen, it was apparent that Giles' sole intent was to cause harm to someone who resides there", the search warrant continued. Giles was found dead in his auto by the authorities, after a shootout with police as he tried to leave the couple's driveway.

Giles was pronounced dead at the scene, with an initial report from the medical examiner indicated he died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

The police found a.45 caliber handgun near his hand. Texas authorities are investigating whether or not Giles shot himself. An official ruling on the manner of death is underway. Noticing a New Mexico license plate, Officer Matthew Jackson ordered Giles to stop.

Armed with the warrant, police searched Giles' house on January 29 and seized two cellphones, a laptop, two tablets and an Xbox gaming system, Albuquerque court documents show.

Christopher Eric Giles, 23, of Albuquerque, N.M. It seems like he envied Free's aspirational lifestyle and his romantic relationship with Turney. The search revealed Giles "was an avid player of video games and was known for watching YouTube videos". Rooster Teeth would have been a go-to as a result since Turney still appears in their output while Free does not. The assumption is that he meant to kill Free.
