Bubba Watson gets emotional after lifting 10th PGA Tour title

  • The Weekend at Riviera

Two days after McGrady, the former NBA star, rejected a Watson drive to the basket in the NBA All-Star Weekend's Celebrity Game, Watson rejected all comers in Sunday's final round of the Genesis Open, which he won by two shots over Tony Finau and Kevin Na at 12-under par.

Watson's caddie Ted Scott seemed to be in the same frame of mind, telling Watson when discussing strategy: "Man, you haven't holed a bunker shot in a while".

In truth, it was both. Playing partner Cameron Smith told him it was at the next hole.

McIlroy continued: "You've got a six-foot putt and they'll shout, "It doesn't break as much as you think", just stuff like that - stuff they don't have to say". He splashed out of the sand and the ball rolled into the pin and disappeared into the cup for an unlikely birdie. He was within one shot of the lead when he hit a 4-iron from a deep bunker on the 15th hole to just right of the green. The implication being that now was the time to end that drought.

Watson is renowned for displaying his emotions and, again, there were tears after he made his final putt on the 18th green. It was a magnificent back-nine performance on a Riviera layout that took its toll on most of the contenders.

Mardi Gras shootings leave three dead, several injured in New Orleans
Police spokeswoman Ambria Washington said that five people were shot before driving to a petrol station in St Claude Avenue. Crowds of people lined the streets of New Orleans on Tuesday to celebrate Mardi Gras and bring carnival season to a close.

Watson began Saturday in a four-way tie for seventh, three strokes off the lead, then shot a 6-under-par 65 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades to go to 10-under 203 for the tournament. "Then I chipped in, I started making putts and we were around the lead or leading at that time and we hung on, especially around No. 11". Scott Stallings and Patrick Cantlay were one shot further back in a share of fourth place. But he went after birdie and watched the ball roll 20 feet down the hill, leading to bogey.

"I've mentioned it (retirement) about 10, 12 times to my wife, we've sat down and had may talks about it because physically I wasn't where I needed to be to keep continuing to play", he said. "Like par-and-a-half", Na said.

"Then I holed it and I was like, 'Um, I guess I can go to the bathroom.' He probably didn't like it as much as I did, but it was pretty amusing at the time".

Watson, of course, was under par in the stretch. He dropped into a tie with a bogey on the par-3 16th and Stricker's birdie on the hole.
