According to media reports citing the Interior Ministry, 14 Afghans were injured in the attack.

Bismillah Tabaan, the police commander of the city's ninth district, where Friday's explosion took place, said a suicide bombing was the cause of blast, but the intended target was not clear.

A suicide vehicle bomb targeting a foreign forces convoy in the eastern part of the Afghan capital left at least one civilian dead and injured nine others just days after the authorities unveiled plans for Taliban peace talks, the interior ministry said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the latest blast.

"One civilian was killed, and eleven civilians were wounded as a result of the attack".

"Today, a suspected vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device was detonated near Australian Embassy vehicles while they were traveling in Kabul", the statement by Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on the website of the embassy said Friday. Najib Danish, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said the suicide bomber targeted a "convoy of foreigners" but did not offer further details or clarify whether it was foreign forces who were targeted or contractors.

In the meantime, another security official says at least fourteen people were wounded in the explosion.

The recent attacks have underscored the weaknesses of Afghan security forces.

The Conference will look to finding a peaceful solution to decades of war in Afghanistan by bringing the Afghan government, the Taliban and other warring parties into direct peace talks as the initial process.

The bombing occurred days after Afghan president Ashraf Ghani revealed that he plans to hold peace talks with the Taliban, which might eventually lead to recognising them as a political party.

They also discussed counter-terrorism measures.

Since mid-January, militants have killed 130 people in Kabul after storming a luxury hotel, bombing a busy street, raiding a military compound, and now launching a suicide attack this morning.
