Zachary Cruz, 18, told deputies he skateboarded through the grounds of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School because he wanted to "reflect on the school shooting and soak it in", according to his arrest report.

Such drastic measures could have potentially prevented or made it more hard for Cruz to buy the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle that he used in his Valentine's Day rampage through the school that he was expelled from.

Broward County prosecutors last week said they would seek a death sentence for Nikolas Cruz, who earlier this month was indicted by a grand jury on 34 counts of premeditated murder and attempted murder in the February 14 massacre, which killed 17 people and injured the same number.

Students walk past one of seventeen crosses after a candlelight vigil for the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

It was previously reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation received, but did not act on, tips about Cruz's potential of becoming a school shooter, including one just a month before the 19-year-old killed 17 people at the school from which he was expelled.

The resource officer in question was former Broward County sheriff's deputy Scot Peterson, who resigned over his failure to confront Cruz during his half-hour assault on the school.

Court documents indicate that a year before the massacre, school officials and a Broward Sheriff's deputy were so concerned about his mental stability that they recommended that he be involuntarily committed for a three-day evaluation.

Under Florida's Baker Act, involuntary commitment of a person may be initiated by an official, including a judge, mental health physician or law enforcement officer, such as Peterson. The push to have Cruz committed is new but the documents the AP has seen don't explain why the commitment never happened.

The FBI is taking the blame for not acting on the situation regarding Nikolas Cruz.

He had been warned by school officials to keep away from the school, the report said. Cruz was indicted on 34 counts of permitted murder and attempted murder. (Cruz) states that he cut because he was lonely, states that he had broken up with his girlfriend and reports that his grades had fallen.

The brother of Nikolas Cruz, Zachary Cruz (center) leaves the courtroom after his brother's arraignment on March 14 in a frame grab provided by WSVN-TV. He faces the death penalty if convicted. "(Cruz) states that he is better now, reports that he is no longer lonely and states that his grades have gone back up".
