Alliance of American Football To Launch In 2019

  • Charlie Ebersol son of former NBC Sports boss Dick Ebersol announces plans for new pro football league

Speaking to the press Tuesday morning from the Park Hyatt hotel in Manhattan, Ebersol and former Buffalo Bills GM and Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian took the wraps off their blueprint for the AAF, a new spring football league that's slated to debut on February 8, 2019-the Saturday following CBS's coverage of Super Bowl LIII.

Sports agent Donald Yee announced last year his plans for Pacific Pro Football, a league with four teams based in Southern California that would give 18- to 21-year-olds a professional alternative to college football.

Ebersol directed a documentary about the XFL, as part of ESPN's 30 for 30 series.

"I was fortunate to live my dream of playing professional football for 12 years and I am eager to use my experience to help shape The Alliance in a way that will create the best possible environment for players", said Allen, who had 136 sacks while playing in 187 NFL games with Kansas City, Minnesota, Chicago, and Carolina. "Only 1,700 have National Football League jobs", Ebersol said.

"We firmly believe the next Kurt Warner and Adam Vinatieri is out there", Polian said. Ex-Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward will be an AAF advisor, as will former New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck.

There are many rules differences to the National Football League as well. There won't be on-side kicks or kickoffs - the ball will be set at the 25-yard line. Play clocks will be 30 seconds, there will be no tv timeouts and fewer commercials on games broadcast on CBS and livestreamed on the AAF website.

Winn Dixie Parent to Close 94 Stores as Part of Prepackaged Restructuring
The store closures will take place in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and SC . Southeastern Grocers' spokesperson Joe Caldwell says the company wants to keep as many employees as possible.

"Fifty-nine million people play fantasy and 20 million people play only fantasy football", Ebersol said. For each season a player spends in the AAF, he will be awarded a year's scholarship for a post-secondary education, said Justin Tuck, a former National Football League defensive end and AAF executive.

Time will tell whether this thing catches on. "I went out and said, 'Look, I need money for seven-to-10 years.' They were the type of people that jumped on board".

That lack of direct animosity toward the NFL might have been why it was easier for the Alliance of American Football to get a TV deal with an NFL partner like CBS.

Each franchise will be league-owned, and the assignment of each team's 50 players will start with a regional draft.

Two months after Vince McMahon announced plans to reboot the long-shuttered XFL, the eldest son of McMahon's erstwhile business partner is looking to steal some of the wrestling mogul's thunder with a league of his own. "Our players and fans are the lifeblood of The Alliance, and we will treat them as such". After touchdowns, a two-point conversion attempt will be required. Though if that would happen, it would be huge and could already be a knockout punch to the XFL before they even get off the ground.

CBS has reportedly reached a deal for broadcasting rights. Nickname it "The Alliance", call it "The AAF" or whatever, but we gotta do something about that.
