  • Sir David Attenborough and the Queen team up to film documentary

But that's exactly what the Queen did, though, when a helicopter flew over the garden in which she and Attenborough were walking.

The 42-year-old heaped praise on the British monarch for her dedication to helping plant trees in Africa to highlight the importance of forest conservation, saying she was inspired by the 91-year-old royal to teach her own children - Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and nine-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox - about the cause.

The pair stroll through the 40 acre gardens with the Queen telling the story of some of the trees planted by family members or for her children.

The Queen Elizabeth and Sir David Attenborough in the gardens of Buckingham Palace during filming of the Queen's Green Planet documentary. Her son Prince Charles has previously admitted to talking to plants and trees to help them grow, but recently joked that rather than taking the softly-softly approach, "now I instruct them instead".

They were filmed during an unscripted 90-minute tour of the 40-acre garden as part of the programme about the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy.

The project, which is spearheaded by Her Majesty, aims to conserve forests in all 53 Commonwealth countries.

At one point the conversation between the two is interrupted by the obnoxiously loud sound of a passing aircraft.

The Queen and Sir David have been friends for decades!

Britain's Queen Elizabeth walks with broadcaster David Attenborough during her visit to the "Wild London" exhibition in Richmond, west London May 15, 2012. "You said that was Andrew".

"It might easily be, yes." she said.

During another humorous moment, the head of state spots a young sapling bent over and quips: "That one we won't look at because it doesn't seem to be doing very well".

"I think she is genuinely concerned about it and interested in it, because she certainly talks about it".

"The Queen's Green Planet" is set to air on United Kingdom broadcaster ITV later this month.
