An attorney for Carver County, Minn., announced today that no charges will be brought in connection with Prince's death and that the musician likely had no idea the vicodin pills he overdosed on were laced with the powerful opioid fentanyl.

Metz explained that Prince ingested the fentanyl by taking "counterfeit Vicodin", but that there was no evidence that the star knew it contained fentanyl.

Mr Metz's announcement came just hours after documents revealed that a doctor who was accused of illegally prescribing an opioid for Prince agreed to pay 30,000 U.S. dollars to settle a civil violation of a federal drug law. However, Metz stated that despite an exhaustive two-year investigation, there is no reliable evidence to prove who provided Prince with the fatal pills.

In his death, Prince became the most famous face of the epidemic of painkiller abuse in the United States.

A toxicology report from Prince's autopsy shows he had "an exceedingly high" concentration of Fentanyl in his body when he died on April 21, 2016. "As licensed professionals, doctors are held to a high level of accountability in their prescribing practices, especially when it comes to highly addictive painkillers". No suspect emerged, he said, during the "painstaking and thorough" investigation by the Carver County Sheriff's Office, which was coordinated with "several federal, state and local agencies".

Metz said that a lack of evidence led to them not filling charges in the case. Prosecutors also affirmed in a separate letter to Schulenberg's attorneys that the doctor is not a target of a federal criminal investigation. According to a DEA task force officer, in his notes, Schulenberg wrote that Johnson "called and is leaving town for Atlanta for a concert shortly and hurt his back lifting equipment". The pills were an exact imitation of real Vicodin pills.

As Metz laid out, Schulenberg will not be facing any criminal charges.

Who'll follow Paul Ryan as speaker? Contest hums below radar
McCarthy lodged a bid to succeed former Speaker John Boehner in 2015 but withdrew after conservatives balked. Swan and Allen said a senior GOP House member predicted, "He will be gone by the end of July".

While many who knew Prince over the years said he had a reputation for clean living, some said he also struggled with pain after years of intense performing.

Paul Division Assistant Special Agent in Charge Kenneth Solek said.

"I am mindful that is a most unusual and extraordinary case involving a world famous celebrity", Metz said.

Tyler says Johnson continues to deny that he had anything to do with Prince's death.

Just six days before he died, Prince passed out on a plane, and an emergency stop was made in Moline, Illinois.

A Minnesota doctor accused of illegally prescribing an opioid for Prince a week before the musician died has agreed to pay $30,000 to settle a federal civil claim. The day before he died his team reached out with an urgent request for help to an opioid addiction specialist, according to CNN. One previous collaborator released a song, "Deliverance", he had recorded with Prince about 10 years ago, prompting court action against the engineer, George Ian Boxill, who had released it. Andrew Kornfeld was carrying buprenorphine, a medication that can be used to help treat opioid addiction.
