  • Amir Khan vs Phil Lo Greco is scheduled for tonight

The concerns proved unfounded after the Briton showed no signs of ring rust in his first bout in a British ring for five years, knocking out Canada's Phil Lo Greco in a mere 39 seconds on Saturday.

Fighting at 150 pounds at the weekend, the same weight could be a starting point for Khan as Brook has only just moved up and should still be able to get somewhere near his old poundage.

Having not stepped into a boxing ring for almost two years after being knocked out by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in May 2016, many critics wondered whether the inactivity might have dulled Amir Khan's famed hand speed.

He also identified his future fight ambitions: "We have many fighters around, I want to fight the top guys, I want to win another world title".

After the fight, Khan challenged English rival Kell Brook.

Speaking after the fight, Khan said: "I want to say a big thank you to Liverpool, they were great tonight".

"I'd like to fight [Adrien] Broner. I want to become a world champion this year or next year".

The former unified light-welterweight world champion said it was a mistake to agree to that fight and acknowledged he would be finished if he lost his comeback bout with Canadian Lo Greco. "I've changed my trainer, I had to make changes", Khan told Sky Sports. It would be an awesome thing to do but at the same time it would be unbelievable to fill out a stadium and get someone like Kell Brook.

Khan even mentioned as much straight away after last night's fight.

The only times I let my hands go a little wild are when I know I have hurt my opponent and I just want to get him out.
