According to Zarif, Iran will respond if US President Donald Trump decides to walk away from the agreement.

Other signatories of the accord - France, Britain, Germany, Russia, and China - have urged Washington to remain a part of the deal, although the Western allies have also expressed concerns about the terms.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has slammed Washington for "bullying" other nations against Tehran, and condemned European Union states that are dancing to the U.S. tune over the nuclear deal at the expense of Iran.

He has warned that the USA would withdraw completely on 12 May - the next deadline for waiving sanctions - unless European signatories to the deal and Congress addressed his concerns.

"If the United States withdraws from the nuclear deal, then we will not stay in it", Ali Akbar Velayati, foreign policy adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was quoted as saying by the state television website.

USA secretary of state Mike Pompeo said the files provided proof that the Obama-era nuclear deal was "built on lies".

Citing Iran's missile program and its role in Middle East conflicts, Trump has ridiculed the nuclear agreement reached under his predecessor as "flawed" and a "disaster".

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on May 3 warned against ditching the JCPOA if it could not be replaced with a viable alternative.

Johnson defended "verification provisions" in the landmark deal with Iran and "intrusive inspections" by the IAEA as good reasons to keep the agreement in place.

Mr Guterres called on the USA leader not to withdraw from the deal, saying that it risked a real possibility of war if the agreement was not maintained.

"It remains a vitally important way of independently verifying that Iran is adhering to the deal and that Iran's nuclear program is exclusively peaceful", he said in a statement.

There is a chance Trump might choose to keep the United States in the worldwide pact under which Iran agreed to curb its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief, in part because of "alliance maintenance" with France and to save face for French President Emmanuel Macron, who met Trump last week and urged him to stay in, the source said.

Technically, Trump must decide by May 12 whether to renew "waivers" suspending some of the USA sanctions on Iran.

He said thousands of pages of material, have been obtained by Israel which showed Iran had deceived the world by denying it had ever sought nuclear weapons.

A decision by Trump to end USA sanctions relief would all but sink the agreement and could trigger a backlash by Iran, which could resume its nuclear arms programme or "punish" U.S. allies in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon, diplomats said. Iran maintained that it had only been pursuing nuclear energy.

Velayati warned against any move to try to renegotiate the 2015 deal.
