  • Los Angeles Angels Albert Pujols second from left hugs third base coach Dino Ebel left while first base coach Alfredo Griffin carries first base after Pujols singled for his 3,000th career hit against the Seattle Marine

Current and former players from around the league saluted Pujols on the accomplishment.

In Seattle, Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols became the 32nd player in baseball history to reach 3,000 career hits.

While he has slowed on the basepaths during the Anaheim chapter of his career, this season also has been rejuvenating for Pujols, who is playing first base regularly after several years primarily serving as a designated hitter. He's the fourth player in four seasons to reach 3,000 hits, after Rodriguez in 2015, Ichiro Suzuki in 2016 and Adrian Beltre last season.

An 18-year veteran, Pujols is also looking to become the fourth player in Major League Baseball history with at least 600 career home runs, 3,000 hits and 2,000 RBI.

Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Alex Rodriguez were the first three players to achieve 3,000 hits and 600 home runs.

Cabrera is sitting on 2,666 hits, while Cano has registered 2,408 with plenty more to come, in his estimation.

Cabrera had to leave the Tigers' 10-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals after straining his hamstring in the sixth inning and was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday. He's the second to reach that mark in an Angels uniform, joining Rod Carew, who did it in 1985. After Cabrera is Robinson Cano, almost 600 hits shy of the mark.

Pujols is the second player to collect his 3,000th hit in Seattle after Rafael Palmeiro's double in 2005 at Safeco Field.

Shohei Ohtani was lustfully booed by Seattle fans in his first game in the Pacific Northwest. The Mariners believed they had a shot at landing the Japanese star last off-season, only to see him choose a division rival.

Leake (3-3) lost for the third time in four starts. Carew and Pujols are the only players to record their 3,000th hit with the Angels. He threw 5 1/3 innings and matched a season-high with four walks. As of Wednesday, May 2, Pujols sits at 2,998 career hits. Gonzales allowed two earned runs in six innings in his last start against Cleveland.
