  • Social Networking Lifts Concerns About Data Misuse

Members of the European Parliament are set to question Facebook's chief executive regarding the improper use of 87 million users' data by Cambridge Analytica.

Tajani said: "The founder and chief executive of Facebook has accepted our invitation". Zuckerberg testified for more than ten hours before the US Congress last month.

Antonio Tajani, the parliament's president, said in a statement posted on his official Twitter account that the Facebook CEO would travel to Brussels to meet representatives of the parliament "hopefully" as soon as next week.

Some MEPs will likely be upset by the behind-closed-doors arrangement.

The UK Parliament has summoned Zuckerberg to testify before its digital and culture committee. Shares in the company even rose after his appearance.

Zuckerberg's visit comes with a strict new European data protection law due to take effect on May 25.

The political data firm garnered notoriety earlier this year when it was revealed it harvested data from more than 50 million Facebook users without permission.

How Google is trying to fix your phone addiction
It's common to look at your smartphone and realize that all the apps you've left open have sucked away the battery life. Typically, Android Auto essentially mirrors your phone - with a special on-screen interface designed for the vehicle .

Yet the question of whether Zuckerberg should explain himself publicly remains a point of contention.

"Particular emphasis will be placed on the potential impact on electoral processes in Europe", the president said in a statement. "It is a step in the right direction towards restoring confidence", Tajani said.

On Monday, Zuckerberg will also attend a meeting organized by French President Emmanuel Macron aimed at pressuring tech giants to use their global influence for public good.

New Scientist reports that "More than 6 million people completed the tests on the myPersonality app and almost half agreed to share data from their Facebook profiles with the project". Cambridge says none of the Facebook data was used in the Trump campaign, and Facebook is investigating. He has rejected several United Kingdom requests to testify before parliament.

The lawmakers were not satisfied with Schroepfer's answers, and called on Zuckerberg to testify.

The committee has no authority to force people who live outside the U.K.to give evidence, according to the Guardian, although it notes that the same committee got Rupert Murdoch and his son James to appear after issuing an official summons a few years ago for an inquiry into phone hacking at News of the World.
