The Senate voted 52-47 yesterday to overturn the decision late previous year to end Net Neutrality rules. They have worked hard to defend the FCC's decision to eliminate net neutrality and hand off the Internet to telecommunications corporations that want to create fast lanes for paying content and slow lanes for everyone else.

Democrats used a law that allows Congress to reverse regulatory actions by a simple majority vote but it is not clear if the U.S. House of Representatives will vote at all on the measure, while the White House has said it opposed repealing the December FCC order.

This win is likely to be short lived for the hundreds of thousands of people who spammed the FCC's website past year with complaints about ending net neutrality.

In order to stop the FCC's rollback of net neutrality before it officially starts next month, the resolution will need approval from the House of Representatives as well as President's Trump's signature.

Senate Democrats believe their resolution that put every Democrat on record in support of net neutrality - and most Republicans on record against it - can turn what was once considered a wonk issue into a wedge issue this November.

Polls have shown strong public backing for Net neutrality.

"Until such time that real "Net Neutrality" legislation becomes law, customers of ISPs, particularly smaller ISPs, can rest assured they will be able to reach lawful Internet content of their choice and won't find their access blocked, degraded, or otherwise inhibited", ACA added. Edward Markey, D-Mass., that would reverse the FCC's decision.

Though they voted differently, Sullivan and Murkowski had a similar message - "because there have been recent dramatic swings from the FCC on the issue, it is critical we develop a bipartisan legislative solution", Sullivan said.

Don't expect the House to go along with the Senate's expected passage of legislation that would revive an Obama-era rule requiring equal treatment for all web traffic by internet providers.

The repeal is scheduled to take effect June 11.

Massachusetts Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren were two of the 49 Democrats who backed the measure that would repeal changes to net neutrality. Given the current makeup of the FCC, would you be optimistic that net neutrality principles would actually be enforced?

"This is a turning point in the movement", said Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz, according to CNET. For one, the bill still needs to be approved by the House and signed by President Trump. "I'll keep raising a ruckus to support net neutrality and I hope others will too", she said, looking directly into the camera. He runs the Democrats' 2018 campaign operation and says Republicans are miscalculating how much voters care about this issue.

"Make no mistake - the abolition of net neutrality will erode the democratic fabric that binds the Internet together", said McGrath.
