First Lady Melania Trump is spotlighting the plight of immigrant families detained at the border with a second visit to a detention center. FLOTUS was reportedly unable to visit an immigration processing center in McAllen, Texas, last week because of flooding in the area.

Trump said she was there to "support" them, adding "let me know what I can do to help you".

She wore a simple black three-quarter sleeve black shirt and white slacks on Thursday.

By the time First Lady Melania Trump rolled up to a child-migrant shelter as part of a swarm of SUVs, police cruisers, and cops on motorcycles, the Phoenix activists were ready to meet her.

Myra Gutin, a professor at Rider University in New Jersey who studies first ladies, says that the aims of Trump's advocacy - and the extent to which they differ from her husband's - seem opaque.

A federal judge ruled that USA immigration agents could no longer separate immigrant parents and children caught crossing the border from Mexico illegally and must work to reunite those families that had been split up in custody.

"She really wants to learn" about the process making news around the world for cases in which parents are separated from their children, Grisham said.

East Wing communications director Stephanie Grisham said the first lady's goal is to "learn and educate herself" about issues at the border, first hand, from those on the front lines and thank them for the sometimes unsafe work they do.

This time, Mrs. Trump seemed averse to distractions as she attended a round table and toured an intake facility in Tucson.

A staffer at the facility said the children had been there, on average, 48 days. When several said they did, she smiled back saying: "Me, too".

Anticipating a possible trip to Phoenix, protesters also gathered outside a Southwest Key facility in the city's west side.

The trip out west marks the first lady's second visit to a border state since her husband, President Donald Trump, signed an executive order last week ending his administration's practice of separating families at the border.

Since April, more than 2,300 immigrant children have reportedly been separated from their parents after the Trump administration implemented a "zero tolerance" policy for illegal immigrants.
