An Excessive Heat Warning is in place for much of central and southern Minnesota as well as western Wisconsin, including all of the Twin Cities metro from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday evening.

According to the weather service, the heat wave will last perhaps 7 or 8 days, with Sunday, Monday and perhaps Tuesday being the hottest and likely record breakers.

The National Weather Service defines a heat wave as three or more consecutive days with temperatures reaching 90 degrees or higher.

Temperatures are expected to reach the high 80s on Monday, the weather service said.
