Netflix Premium subscribers could lose HDR as 'Ultra' tier goes into testing

  • Netflix could soon announce some changes to its pricing schedule with the addition of a fourth plan

Also, from the documentation posted by TuttoAndroid (via PhoneArena), it isn't clear whether Premium subscribers will lose their current access to HDR content too.

When subscribing to the €16.99 tier, those Ultra subscribers would also be able to watch Netflix on four screens simultaneously.

Netflix is testing an "Ultra" tier, placed above its Premium tier. The new Ultra offering would then have the four simultaneous streams that are now offered in the Premium plan.

Images grabbed from the website show that there are at least two possibilities being considered for the new tier, which would cost €16.99 - $16.99 in the US if the current pricing scheme is maintained.

Similarly, the Standard subscription might be downgraded to just one display.

Seven Men Held In Connection With Bronx Teen’s Machete Murder
Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz was dragged out of a store on Bathgate Avenue and killed by a group of men with a machete. On Monday night, a huge vigil attracting hundreds was held outside, while thousands attended a wake for the boy .

The spokesperson added that not everyone will see the test taking place, and the company may not even implement the new subscription tier.

The change may come as a surprise as Netflix states on its website that all four screen Netflix plans support HDR (Dolby Vision and UltraHD Premium).

Netflix may be introducing a new, higher tier of service. The prices for Standard and Premium plans would not be increased, but losing screens equals a price hike if you share your Netflix login. The ever-expanding company, which is now led by CEO Reed Hastings, has 125 million memberships in 190 countries. While €16.99 was the maximum price seen in Italy, the figure varies elsewhere.

So the new prices could be justified by premium exclusive content, and not just high-resolution video streams.

The news of this update comes as Sky and Virgin Media customers will soon get the option to pay for their Netflix subscription through one monthly bill. The company said that they are "testing slightly different price points and features to better understand how consumers value Netflix" and the option is only being shown to some European consumers.
