  • Anita Hill Calls for an Investigation into the Allegation of Sexual Abuse Against Brett Kavanaugh

Multiple reports have found that a letter held by Senate Democrats contains allegations from an unnamed woman who says that Kavanaugh and another man attempted to sexually assault her when they were all in high school. While his friend watched, the woman said, Kavanaugh pinned her down, grinding his body against hers and trying to pull off her one-piece bathing suit and the clothing she wore over it. The letter details an accusation from a woman who said she was at a party with Kavanaugh when they were both in high school, according to a person familiar with the matter.

According to her account, she escaped from Kavanaugh when his friend and classmate at Georgetown Preparatory School, Mark Judge, jumped on top of them, "sending all three tumbling".

Last week, Kavanaugh said he "categorically and unequivocally" denies the allegations. At some point in the night, Ford told the Post, she got up to use the bathroom.

Ford described to the Post her concern her identity would be revealed anyway as the story snow balled. The letter was also shared with Feinstein in July.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, under Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), on Friday released a letter from 65 women who say they knew Kavanaugh in high school and said that he "always treated women with decency and respect".

But the allegations of sexual misconduct, particularly coming amid the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment, coupled with Ford's emergence could complicate matters, especially as key Republican senators, including Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, are under enormous pressure from outside groups who want them to oppose Kavanaugh on grounds that as a justice he could vote to undercut the Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion in the U.S. After knowledge of the allegation was made public, Feinstein then only made a cryptic statement about a matter she turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which declined to investigate the matter.

The White House's response to the allegation raises the cultural stakes of the fight. The husband says she used Kavanaugh's name during the session. She said she was at a party with other teenagers at a home close to a country club where she spent time during the summer.

Two Koreas agree to hold September summit in Pyongyang
Kim reportedly complained about the USA negotiating in bad faith and regretted the doubts raised about his commitment to peace. Embassy in Seoul on Thursday said it had no information to share on the matter.

After the Post's article went up, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee released a statement again questioning the timing of the accusations and why Sen.

Even after Feinstein sent the allegation to the FBI, Senate Democrats weren't littering the news with calls to denounce Kavanaugh. Sources told NPR that the California senator felt pressure to put something out publicly after a report indicated she had not briefed fellow members of the panel on a document.

Kavanaugh emphatically denied the allegations, which were reported last week after Sen.

She contacted the newspaper through a tip line in early July, when iKavanaugh was on President Donald Trump's shortlist of potential nominees to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. Eshoo said in a statement that she was "proud" of her constituent. "They must also have unquestionable character and integrity, and serious questions remain about Judge Kavanaugh in this regard, as indicated in information I referred to the FBI", Feinstein writes. She told the Post: "Now I feel like my civic responsibility is outweighing my anguish and terror about retaliation".

Ford told the Washington Post in an interview published Sunday she had chose to come forward because she felt her "civic responsibility" was "outweighing my anguish and terror about retaliation" after the basic outlines of the story emerged in USA media last week.

Several Democrats joined Feinstein in calling for more scrutiny of the allegation before a vote.
