Serena Williams is sticking to her story and pointing to the double standard.

First she was warned after her coach Patrick Mouratoglou was seen communicating with her via a hand gesture and then she was docked a point after smashing her racket.

Appearing on the "Ellen Show" Wednesday, Osaka revealed what Williams told her after the defeat as the crowd booed over the controversial decisions made by Ramos. "I don't understand what he was talking about", she said. "We've never had signals". Ms Williams should have accepted his ruling but, rather than focus on getting back into the match (which she was losing), she let it stew to the point that when she lost the next game she smashed her racquet onto the court - an automatic violation.

The entire exchange led to an awkward moment in Queens as fans boo'd non-stop after Osaka's historic win.

Williams' behaviour somewhat overshadowed Osaka's achievements as she held her composure to become Japan's first ever Grand Slam champion.

"Because I'm a woman you're going to do this to me", she said. "She is doing a awful disservice to women's rights, to the #metoo movement, to gender equality", Caroline Wilson of the Australian Broadcasting Corp. said, adding, "to say she's fighting for women's rights, when what she is, is a bad sport".

Jamie Murray and Novak Djokovic were among the stars of the men's game who publicly said that Ramos could have been more sympathetic to Williams.

Yes, what she did is clearly against the rules, which call for a code violation to be assessed.

Hank Aaron has plenty to say about the treatment of Serena Williams, post-U.

Croatia will play France in the Davis Cup final on November 23-25.
