  • WASHINGTON DC- SEPTEMBER 27 Judge Brett Kavanaugh testifies to the Senate Judiciary Committee during his Supreme Court confirmation hearing in the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill

The New York Times reports that former Blazer and OR governor candidate Chris Dudley was in a 1985 bar fight with friend and now Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

According to a report in the New York Times, Kavanaugh was once questioned by police due to his involvement in a bar brawl that left one of the participants injured and hospitalized.

Ludington told CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time" anchor Chris Cuomo that the altercation happened after a UB40 concert, when he and a group of friends were drinking at Demery's.

Charles Ludington, a history professor at N.C. State University and college friend of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, plans to deliver a statement to the Federal Bureau of Investigation field office in Raleigh on Monday regarding Kavanaugh's violent and drunken behavior while at Yale University.

The White House did not have any immediate reaction on behalf of itself or Kavanaugh, but directed CNN to comments made by Chris Dudley, a close friend of Kavanaugh's and a former National Basketball Association player.

Ludington said the man in question was annoyed by Kavanaugh and his classmates' attention, and got into an altercation with the Yale students, according to a report.

"Brett was a frequent drinker, and a heavy drinker", Ludington said in a statement Sunday. "He was not the person arrested", Hartman said.

When The Post sought comment from Kavanaugh's attorneys last week regarding allegations of excessive drinking at Yale, the newspaper received a call back from Dudley.

He said: "Sometimes I had too many beers, sometimes others did". He has strongly denied the accusation.

"But I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out and I never sexually assaulted anyone".

Ludington told Cuomo he initially remembered Kavanaugh then threw his beer at the man, but recently found out from the report that there were ice cubes in the thrown drink.

On Monday, Donald Trump said he supported a "comprehensive" investigation and went on to suggest Kavanaugh had problems with alcohol as a teenager.

Democrats have seized on Kavanaugh's indignant, emotional testimony before the Judiciary Committee to question whether he has the temperament for a lifetime appointment on the nation's highest court. The information came after Trump told reporters on Monday that the bureau should "interview anybody that they want within reason, but you have to say within reason".

Kavanaugh's drinking has become an issue because women who've accused him of sexual misconduct - Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez (and Julie Swetnick) - have said Kavanaugh was drunk at the time of the alleged incidents.
