Looking at the weekend, Met Éireann said, "Saturday will see spells of heavy showery rain in the morning, breaking up to scattered showers in the afternoon".

"The Met office have issued two YELLOW be aware weather warning for rain for the Scottish Borders".

More than 60,000 homes and businesses were left without power across the island.

"In particular, as the worst of this storm looks likely to hit overnight, motorists could wake up on Friday morning to debris and fallen trees on a number of routes".

Strong winds and torrential rain have prompted the latest Met Office warnings of flooding and travel disruption, with Storm Callum expected to particularly impact western parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The family of a 21-year-old man who died in a landslide during Storm Callum has paid tribute to their "beautiful son".

Rail services were plagued by delays, with severe weather affecting services between Preston and Scotland, across the whole of Wales, and in South West England.

A spokesman for the airport said five departure flights and five arrivals were cancelled as a result of the gale force winds.

"The areas that have seen the bulk of the sunshine over the last couple of days will then be under the cloud, with patchy, light rain and drizzle at times", said meteorologist Simon Partridge.

"However, for this event, safety comes first and we have taken the decision to postpone the event due to expected adverse weather conditions in the area".
