  • Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are set to become the first Muslim women elected to the US Congress

On January 1, 2009, Rashida became the first Muslim American woman to serve in the Michigan Legislature, and the second Muslim woman in history to be elected to any USA state legislature.

She shared: "We changed the course of history at a time we thought it was impossible".

She floored her, earlier perceived stronger, opponents with one being a prominent female politician, while two others were long-term servicemen in Minnesota's legislature.

She was joined shortly after on Tuesday night by Omar, who ran for the Democrats in Minnesota's fifth district. Following her win in 2016, Omar said her political involvement had become more than "about me or the win or the loss".

Tlaib is a 42-year-old Detroit native. In an interview with CBS Wednesday, the newly elected congresswoman said she plans on embracing refugees. After fleeing the country's civil war, she spent four years in a refugee camp before coming to the USA when she was 14.

One of the major revelations from the Direct was that there are no trophies in the game, unlike all the previous Smash Bros . That would be Piranha Plant, the polka-dotted pipe dweller that subsists on a steady diet of clumsy plumbers.

Born in Detroit to Palestinian-American parents, Tlaib served in Michigan's state legislature from 2008 to 2014.

The seat she won is in a predominantly African American congressional district with few Muslim voters.

Rashida, who is associated with a socialist group within the Democratic Party, is also very popular in this constituency. Her election comes during a presidential administration seen as fanning anger against Muslims and enacting anti-Muslim policies.

Since then, she has not stopped campaigning: she worked full-time as a volunteer for Barack Obama, and on dozens of local and state campaigns.

The Democrat lived in the Kenyan refugee camp till the age of 12 when she moved to the US.

There was no Republican on the ballot in the overwhelmingly Democratic district.
