CNN has called on a federal court to hold emergency proceedings after the White House said it would again revoke press access to correspondent Jim Acosta despite a temporary restraining order to reinstate him.
But in the letter, the White House said that at future press conferences each reporter would be limited to a single question, with follow-up questions permitted at the discretion of the President or staff.
(He extended the timeline to 6 p.m. after a request by the DOJ.) The White House tried to solve the due process problem identified by Kelly in Friday's ruling by sending Acostaa new letter notifying him why his pass was revoked. CNN argued that it violated the network and Acosta's First and Fifth Amendment rights.
A judge last week issued a ruling of a "limited nature" that restored Acosta'scredentials temporarily while a CNN lawsuit against the administration proceeds.
Later that same day, the White House sent Acosta a formal letter outlining a "preliminary decision" to suspend his pass.
Ultimately, Trump seems to view his feud with CNN as good politics, as his 2020 re-election campaign used the revocation of Acosta'spress pass as fundraising fodder.
USA oil continues to fall. When will the turnaround come?
In July, Trump called the organization a "monopoly", warning on Twitter that "gas prices are up & they are doing little to help". Prices may be oversold technically, but it's going to take a major change in the fundamentals to flip this market.

While one will take place in Bengaluru on November 21, 2018, the other will be in Mumbai on November 28, 2018. And the latest follow-up is that Ranveer Singh played dhol for Deepika Padukone during their sangeet ceremony.
But the new letter from Shine and Sanders is an "attempt to provide retroactive due process", the lawyers said. Late Friday, top officials named as defendants in the suit from CNN and Acosta suggested that the "preliminary" decision to revoke Acosta's pass earlier this month could be final if he doesn't submit materials to argue his case by November 18, for a final decision November 19.
According to John Roberts of Fox News and Jonathan Karl of ABC News, the White House plans to abandon its efforts to pull Acosta's credential.
"That's enough, that's enough", Mr Trump said as a White House intern attempted to take the microphone from Acosta. "We'll have rules of decorum, you know you can't keep asking questions", Trump said. Since Kelly was following Sherrill, there's every reason to believe that the White House would have lost even if it had dotted its I's and crossed its T's on notifying Acosta beforehand that his pass was about to disappear. Several prominent USA media outlets, including Fox News, CBS, and ABC, have supported CNN's suit.
When Wallace asked what rules the administration would put in place as a result of the judge's decision, Trump responded: "We're writing them now".
"If he misbehaves", Trump said, apparently referring to Acosta, "we'll throw him out or we'll stop the news conference".
