As the world mourns the death of former President George H.W. Bush, ABC News contributor Cokie Roberts remembered his time as president and what distinguished him from the modern political climate on this week's Powerhouse Politics podcast.

Mr. Bush has been lying in repose at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, where his family worshipped.

Bush, the 41st U.S. president, occupied the White House from 1989 to 1993, navigating the collapse of the Soviet Union and expelling former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's forces from oil-rich Kuwait.

Bush. The funeral of former President Ronald Reagan in 2004 brought together both Bushes, Clinton, Carter and Gerald Ford.

In the awkward scene referenced by the two, Trump can be seen walking into a church aisle where the Obamas and Clintons are seated as well. Former Sen. Bob Dole, a compatriot in war, peace and political struggle, steadied himself out of his wheelchair and saluted his old friend and one-time rival. "They had just as much animus for Bush 41 and Bush 43 as they do Trump, for different reasons".

Most federal government offices will be closed on Wednesday as many federal workers will get the day off. Flags on public buildings are flying at half-staff for 30 days.

"I'm going to say that I don't think I would shake hands with him". Ostensibly, that's because the family already had a ready-made former president waiting in the wings: the fallen leader's son, whose eulogy collapsed briefly into tears as he imagined his father reunited with his late wife Barbara and daughter Robin, lost to leukemia in 1953.
